Lebanon’s parliament speaker has condemned Israeli latest strikes as a “full-fledged war crime” as Beirut comes under its biggest attack, just hours after a ceasefire was agreed upon between US and Iran.
Nabih Berri said the strikes targeted southern suburbs of Beirut, large areas of the Bekaa Valley, Mount Lebanon, Sidon and several villages in southern Lebanon, resulting in the killings and injuries of hundreds of civilians in densely populated neighbourhoods.
“Today’s crime is a serious test for the international community and a blatant challenge to all international laws, norms, and conventions, which Israel violates through its continued targeting of civilians,” Berri said.
He called on Lebanon’s political, religious and civil leaders to “unite in solidarity,” with the victims as the country continues to face what he described as “the brutality of the Israeli killing machine in its war of extermination against Lebanon”.
