On the foothills of the Smoky Mountains
My love is barricaded.

She is not afraid of bears,
She is not afraid of bobcats,
She is not afraid of snakes
And even stink bugs in her new house.

Now she is sitting on her deck
And as she drinks her coffee
She is thinking of me.
I am sitting by the Pacific Ocean
Fearful of her daring
To take such risks.

در دامنه‌ی کوه‌های دودی

در دامنه‌ی کوه‌های دودی*
عشق من سنگر گرفته است.

او از خرس‌ها نمی‌ترسد
او از سیاه‌گوش‌ها نمی‌ترسد
او از مارها نمی‌ترسد
و حتی از سن‌ها در خانه‌ی تازه‌اش.

اینک در ایوان چوبی‌اش نشسته
و همچنان که قهوه‌اش را می‌نوشد
به من می‌اندیشد
که در کنار اقیانوس آرام نشسته‌ام
و از جراتش به خطر کردن
در هراسم.
