Confiscation

They have taken my motherland from me

And now they want to confiscate

My portion of our father’s house.

But I have brought this house

With me into exile

With its four tall sycamores

And two fruitful persimmons,

With its creeping lotuses

Over the railing of the swimming pool,

With its patio and summer mosquito net,

With its spiral staircase

Coiling toward a starry roof,

With its rich dining table

Alongside our father and mother,

With the families of my three sisters

Sitting around a long dining cloth,

With my youngest sister’s bed

Under a young horse poster,

With the sleeping bundles of my two brothers

And mine spread on the carpet,

     With my youngest brother in his cradle

Babbling to himself,

With my oldest brother in America

And his summertime visits ,

with my hidden books,

And no Headquarter*

Can take this house from me.

سرزمین مادریم را از من گرفته‌اند

و اینک می‌خواهند سهم من

از خانه‌ی پدریمان را

مصادره کنند.

اما من این خانه را

با خود به تبعید آورده‌ام

با چهار چنار بلند

و دو خرمالوبن پربارش

با نیلوفر آبی پیچانش

بر نرده‌ی کنار استخر

با بهارخواب و پشه‌بند تابستانیش

با پلکان مارپیچیش

خزیده به بامی پرستاره

با میز غذای رنگینش

کنار پدر و مادر

با خانواده‌های سه خواهرم

نشسته گرد سفره‌ای بلندبالا

با تختخواب خواهر کوچکم

زیر پوستر اسبی جوان

با رختخواب دو برادرم

کنار جای من روی قالی

با برادر کوچکم در گهواره

قان قون کنان با خود

با برادر بزرگم در آمریکا

و دیدارهای تابستانیش

با کتابهای پنهانم

و هیچ ستادی نمی‌تواند

این خانه را از من بگیرد.
